The City of Corpus Christi is one of the 2003 winners of the All-America City award.  This is a fantastic and well-deserved accomplishment that reflects the willingness of our citizens to work cooperatively to address problems in our community.  The marketing and promotion of this award will help in our overall economic development efforts and desire to keep moving this city forward.

The All-America City Award was established in 1949 by the National Municipal League, as a way of recognizing cities where actions AACwere taken by citizens working together to make their communities better places to live. The award is based on how well different segments of the city have worked together to meet some of the challenges it has faced.

The city has submitted three community-driven programs as part of its application. The programs submitted are Forward Corpus Christi's approval of a bond issue in 2000, Air Quality Program (Corpus Christi is the only major city in Texas that is still in attainment of state and federal air quality standards), and the Juvenile Assessment Center (impact in keeping kids in school and off the streets).

Corpus Christi is one of just 10 cities nationwide, and the only one in Texas, selected as a 2003 All-America City on June 14, 2003, during a special ceremony in Washington, D.C.
